Regardless the size of the company: MNCs or smaller, regulators always oversee product recalls and corrective actions. Drawers and fall hazard (tipping hazard) from large furniture or furniture parts have injured children or adult users in the past. For example the NCCC (Malaysia) have received two such complaints where users (adults) were injured when drawers fell on their feet due to improper fixtures and improper installations respectively of cabinets.
In the US where incidents are easily reported (relatively speaking) there are records of Televisions falling on children and injuring them. Despite records of such incidents, we in Malaysia have limited protection due to slow action or inaction by the relevant authorities to demand that corrective actions taken by furniture makers, retailers or installers to report incidents and implement corrective actions. If the authorities are competent they will take heed of the MALM recalls and investigate if such hazards appear in other types of furniture (other than IKEA). Such pro-active actions will compel businesses to ensure that their products are safe to consumers - among other things!
